The United States erected a regulatory barrier around foreign-made mobile robots as Chinese autonomous systems became embedded in British warehouses. Chinese AMRs Are Becoming Plumbing for British Retail
Chinese AMRs are settling into the hidden machinery of British retail. The BBC reports that more than 2,000 Geek+ autonomous mobile robots have been deployed by MotionTech across roughly 10 British sites serving retailers including Tesco, Asda and Next. The squat machines travel beneath racks, lift entire shelves and deliver them to human pickers.
Britain is not building pristine warehouses around these robots. According to the BBC, operators can retrofit existing buildings using QR-code floor markers and safety fencing, avoiding much of the concrete, conveyor and structural work associated with traditional automation.
If this model keeps spreading, Chinese-built AMRs become a replaceable—but deeply embedded—layer in British logistics. Retailers gain flexibility and a response to labor shortages; Geek+ gains installed-base economics that make switching vendors progressively more painful.
Non-adoption would show up as stalled site growth, poor fleet utilization or customers replacing QR-guided systems with competing navigation technologies. The sharper test, however, may come from policy: Britain now has thousands of foreign-made connected robots already inside important distribution networks.

Google DeepMind released Gemini Robotics 2, a model family that turns visual and verbal instructions into robot movement, plans multi-step tasks and can run a smaller control model locally. If the software succeeds, robot makers can spend less time hand-programming every movement and more time adapting common intelligence to different bodies. BMW’s Battery Plant Is the Uncinematic Version of Physical AI
Physical AI rarely looks dramatic. At BMW Group’s Plant Woodruff in South Carolina, it looks like test and pre-series high-voltage batteries already moving through production, ahead of series production for the electric BMW iX5 scheduled for December 2026. The interesting technology is not a humanoid. BMW says artificial-intelligence assistants analyze production data, inline systems document every weld and assembly step, and employees train inside a virtual copy of the facility before working with physical equipment. Finished packs will travel approximately 15 miles to BMW Manufacturing’s Spartanburg vehicle plant.
If Woodruff performs as planned, “local for local” manufacturing becomes an operating system rather than a reshoring slogan: nearby battery production, digital training and automated quality control tied directly to vehicle assembly.
Failure would look like a delayed December ramp, excessive scrap or automation-related downtime hidden behind production totals. Watch whether BMW publishes quality and availability metrics after series production begins; installed robots are evidence of capital spending, not yet proof of superior operations.
Anduril’s Ohio Megafactory Has Produced Aircraft Number One
Anduril’s Ohio megafactory has produced its first aircraft. The first Ohio-built Fury uncrewed aircraft rolled off Anduril Industries’ Arsenal-1 line on July 27. If Anduril succeeds, defense autonomy begins to look less like boutique aerospace manufacturing and more like industrial production. Suppliers around Ohio could gain recurring demand, while established defense contractors face pressure to shorten factory timelines.
Failure will be visible in the gap between aircraft number one and aircraft numbers two through one hundred. Monthly output, localized suppliers and government acceptance milestones will reveal whether Arsenal-1 is a megafactory or merely a very large building with an excellent first photo.

Gemini Robotics 2: Google DeepMind publicly introduced three connected models for robot action, multi-step reasoning and local control. More than 100 trusted testers are evaluating the software, according to Google, but no production customer has published shift-level performance.
Nauticus Robotics Next-Generation Electric Manipulator: Nauticus Robotics completed its first prototype for autonomous subsea intervention. The company has not yet published payload, depth qualification, cycle-life or customer-deployment data, so the next meaningful launch milestone is wet testing outside Nauticus Robotics’ own development program.

- Red Sea shipping disruption: Reuters reports that Red Sea shipping slowed after a Houthi attack on a Saudi facility. That is not a robotics development by itself, but erratic arrivals and higher human risk strengthen the operating case for automated yards, remote inspection and ports that can replan quickly.
- The reusable modular nanorobot: University of Basel researchers reported a magnetic nanorobot whose propulsion and payload modules can be separated, refilled and reused.
